Torchlight Trail Runner

To Run By Torchlight

This autumn torchlight trail race is set amid pine trees and sand dunes...

If running in the heat is not your thing, we have the perfect solution! The Black Diamond Torchlight Trail will return to Anglesey on 9 September and as in previous years will offer runners the choice of 5K and 10K distances.

Set amid the pine trees and sand dunes of Newborough Forest, with the sun setting and the moon reflecting off the sea, these trail races offer a very special experience for all those who take part. This is an event with some world-class scenery, Snowdonia's awe-inspiring landscape is the backdrop.

The unique selling point of the race is obviously the torchlight aspect with organisers saying: "This is a fun race for all ages and abilities who love trail running and want to try something a bit different!"

The Torchlight Trail follows the same run route as the Sandman Sprint Triathlon (which takes place earlier in the day), only this time it's by head torch light! The run takes place on the rugged trails of Newborough Forest, and runners will find that running through the trees and down along the sand dunes is both wonderful and gruelling. The last 1.5K is almost entirely on sand but it only makes the accomplishment all the more rewarding.

5K runners will tackle the course once while 10K runners get to go at it a second time! Both distances start and finish in the event village where there will be music, commentary, shopping and food.

2022 saw the return of the event after a COVID enforced absence. Runners were rewarded with beautiful running conditions which saw Chris Callaghan winning the 10K event in a time of 41:20 while first female was Lizzie Irvine in 54:40. The 5K title was claimed by Danny Hazeldine in 24:16 and first female was Kerry Jones in 26:27.
