Tissington's New Year Trail
A popular Derbyshire trail race gets a new January date...
The autumn Tissington Trail Half Marathon has established itself as a real favourite with runners and regularly features in the Runner's World top 10 UK trail races. With this in mind organisers, Nice Work, have decided to launch a new edition for earlier in the year.
The new Tissington Trail Half Marathon will take place in the New Year on 27/28 January. A spokesperson told us: "Runners told us they wanted more and we listened! With the roaring success of the already established Tissington Trail Half Marathon in September which often sells out months in advance, we have launched a brand new edition with an accompanying 10K for the New Year."
To accommodate demand and mirror the September event, the race will be held across two dates in one weekend. The race format will, however, differ slightly from the September offering and consist of an out-and-back route from Ashbourne along the traffic-free Tissington trail. The route gently climbs through the glorious Peak District before turning around for a downhill finish - so fast times are likely!
The Tissington Trail is a bridleway and walk/cycle path in Derbyshire it runs for 13 miles from Parsley Hay in the north to Ashbourne in the south, along part of the trackbed of the former railway line connecting Ashbourne to Buxton. It is ideal trail running territory, as organisers enthuse: "This is a bewitching Half Marathon and 10K in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside that is sure to capture your racing heart... it's how racing was meant to be."
