Bridgeathon

Bridgeathon Is Back!

Still time to enjoy some canalside running at this year's Bridgeathon...

The Bridgeathon returns on 28 September, offering runners a unique challenge along the Lancaster Canal with distances of 10K, half marathon, marathon and ultra. Starting and finishing at Guy’s Canal Side Tavern in Preston, the event takes participants along a flat towpath route that is as scenic as it is memorable.

Half marathon runners will head north through the market town of Garstang before looping back to the finish, while marathon runners continue south after completing the northern stretch, passing through the villages of Woodplumpton and Swillbrook before reaching Salwick and returning to Guy’s. Those taking on the ultra will add an extra out-and-back on the 10K route, covering 32 miles in total.

Organisers say: "The course is a treat for anyone who loves canalside running, with marathon runners crossing or passing under 43 bridges along the way. To keep spirits high, checkpoints will offer water, cordial, coke and a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. All finishers will receive a bespoke medal to mark their achievement."

With the start and finish based at Guy’s Canal Side Tavern, runners can relax with food and drink afterwards, and those who want to make a weekend of it can even book into the pub’s accommodation for a fresh start on race morning.
