Head South For This Classic...
Celebrate a 'Decade of PBs' on Southampton Marathon's 10th birthday...
The ABP Southampton Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and Mile Fun Run on Sunday 6 April 2025 will be the 10th edition of one of the most popular and fastest-growing multi-race running events in the south.
After Joe Beaton (Tavistock RC, 2:33:41) had beaten nearly 900 finishers in the marathon last year, former ABP Southampton Marathon winner Richard Waldron (Southampton AC) was presented with the half marathon prize for his 1:14:33 from 2,128 runners. The women's long-distance champions were Hannah Traylen (3:08:01) and Lucy Short (1:29:59) respectively.
In recognition of 10 years of the ABP Southampton Marathon, organisers ReesLeisure have declared a 'Decade of PBs', challenging entrants for the special edition races to become the 'Winner of the Decade'. The targets are the best marathon times set by Chris McGurk (2:30:17) in 2022 and Melissa Gibson (2:54:16) in 2021. At half marathon, the times to beat are 1:11:12 by Matthew Revier in the 2016 race and 1:20:10 by Simone Dailey in 2017.
The past 10 years have seen over £4 million raised for charities and over £90,000 invested into local communities by title sponsors ABP Southampton. Our photo shows previous Team Naomi runner Leon. You could join Team Naomi to help raise vital funds for Naomi House & Jacksplace, supporting children and young adults with life-limiting conditions. Team Naomi participants will receive support from GB Coach Nick Anderson of Running With Us and wellness support from Winchester Wellness to ensure you are race-ready.
The programme starts with the two longest races away at 09:00am, followed by the 10K and 5K at 10:00am, and the Mile Fun Run at 3:30pm. All events will start and finish in the centrally located Southampton Guildhall Square. The inspiring route begins in the city centre before running past ABP Southampton Docks, over the famous Itchen Bridge with glorious views across the Southampton Waters, The Solent, and beyond to the New Forest.
Following a section by the shoreline at Weston Shore, the route takes you inside the legendary St Mary’s Football Stadium, home to Southampton Football Club (aka The Saints). Passing over Northam Bridge with more riverside views you will run through the beautiful Riverside Park before crossing into Portswood and running through Southampton Common (home to the UK’s second largest parkrun).
