Run to the Sea Brighton 2024 finishers

Two Tempting?

Downhill all the way? Not quite, but Run to the Sea Brighton is a super scenic run...

Run to the Sea Brighton Ultra on Saturday 10 May 2025 is a 50K multi-terrain, point-to-point race from Horsham to Brighton seafront, described by the organisers Ultra Violet Run as: "second to none for scenery and views".

It is one of the runABC South featured events for May and a serial winner of gold race awards since it was introduced in 2021. With its sister event Run to the Sea Bournemouth, it forms a pair of beginner-friendly 50K ultramarathons that are too tempting to miss.

Run to the Sea Brighton features staggered start times 08:00-08:25 from Christ's Hospital School, Horsham, West Sussex, RH13 0LJ with registration open from 07:15 and entries taken on the day if available. There is a generous 9.5-hour cut-off time taken from the earliest start. The course is fully signed with arrows and competitors receive a GPS route file in advance.

The course has four feed stations at approximately 10K intervals, with the option to have your own food delivered to feed stations three and four. Bus transport from the finish to the start before the race is available if required (£8) and there is professional medical support throughout.

All finishers are rewarded with a bespoke medal and memento plus there are FREE top quality downloadable photos like the one above of happy finishers last year. Finally, this is a registered Ultra-Trail Du Mont-Blanc index race for those on the pathway to the ultra ultramarathon.

Last year's winners were M40 Robert Brundidge in 3:19:56 and W40 Freya Leman (4:23:44). The course can produce fast times like these as the first half on the Downs Link is slightly downhill; the second half on the South Downs Way is on rolling hills before finishing along the flat seafront promenade in Brighton.

With Horsham being 50 metres above sea level, this is a rare opportunity to race beyond the marathon distance on a net downhill course that can be firm underfoot depending on the weather conditions.
