Salcey Forest Christmas 10K 5K 2026

Santa Hats And Muddy Trainers At Salcey Forest

Salcey Forest welcomes festive runners on 13 December, with 10K and 5K woodland races, a junior fun run and prizes for the best Christmas fancy dress...

Santa hats are optional, but a sense of humour could prove useful when the Salcey Forest Christmas 10K, 5K & Junior Fun Run returns to Northamptonshire on Sunday 13 December. With woodland trails, festive fancy dress and the possibility of some December mud, this is Christmas running with a distinctly outdoorsy flavour.

Organised by Nice Work, the event takes place in Salcey Forest, between Northampton and Milton Keynes. The 5K follows a single circuit of the forest's tree lined paths, while the 10K covers the same route twice. Both courses are described as virtually flat, although runners should be prepared for uneven trails, exposed tree roots and sections that could become muddy after rain.

There's plenty of room for competitive running, with trophies and prizes for leading finishers across both distances. But the organisers are equally keen to encourage runners who simply want to enjoy the occasion. Seasonal fancy dress is welcomed, with a special prize for the best outfit. Just how quickly Father Christmas can negotiate a muddy forest path remains to be seen.

Younger runners have their own opportunity to join the celebrations. The approximately 1.2K Junior Fun Run starts at 9:30am, ahead of the main races at 10:00am. Every junior finisher receives a medal, while accompanying adults can run alongside younger children without an additional entry.

The event also supports Shelter, the national housing and homelessness charity, adding a worthwhile cause to the festive programme. All finishers in the main races receive a bespoke medal, with free race photography providing another opportunity to capture those Christmas costumes.

For runners looking to escape the shopping crowds and enjoy some fresh air before Christmas, Salcey Forest offers a cheerful alternative.

Entries are available now, with further details through the runABC Race Hub.
