Will You Run In A Land Down Under?
Sydney Marathon 2027 ballot results have been announced, but runners who missed out can explore guaranteed entry travel packages for the World Marathon Major...
This relates to: Sydney Marathon
For thousands of runners around the world, the Sydney Marathon ballot has delivered either an early Christmas present or a disappointing email. But missing out in the draw doesn't necessarily mean missing out on the race. The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS returns on Sunday 29 August 2027, and alternative routes to the start line are available.
The ballot results were announced on Tuesday 3 November, following another period of intense interest in Australia's Abbott World Marathon Major. More than 123,000 applications were received for the 2026 race, illustrating just how competitive securing a place has become since Sydney joined the prestigious series in 2025.
For unsuccessful applicants, official international travel partners provide another opportunity. Marathon Tours & Travel, a runABC Your Running Partner, offers Sydney Marathon travel packages combining guaranteed race entry with accommodation, local support and organised activities. The company is currently inviting runners to register their interest in its 2027 programme.
And Sydney is certainly worth travelling for. The marathon takes runners across the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge before winding through the city's streets and finishing beside the Sydney Opera House. It's a remarkable setting for 26.2 miles, with the added attraction of completing one of the world's major marathons.
The race has grown enormously in recent years, attracting runners from across the globe and establishing itself as an important destination on the international marathon calendar. For British runners, the opportunity to combine a major sporting challenge with a visit to Australia adds another dimension to the experience.
With the public ballot now closed, runners still hoping to take part in 2027 can explore the official travel and charity programmes.
