Friendly And Approachable

RunUK: Promoting running events for all in London and Surrey this winter...

Mass participation events have their devotees and there is something special about taking part in a huge shared endeavour alongside thousands of like-minded individuals. However, there is also much to be said for a smaller event where race technique can be honed in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.

This is where RunUK sits in the wide spectrum of running events. Think a bit more compact, more personal, less crowded, and friendlier and you are starting to get the idea. Not that any staples of the larger events are missing despite the very reasonable entry fees.

All RunUK races feature scenic courses in great locations in London and Surrey; the very latest chip timing technology for reliably accurate results; professional event photography; cheery supportive marshalls, first aid, and a baggage drop. Naturally, there's a superb medal for all finishers and goodies that may include water, juices, fruit, and every runner's favourite – chocolate!

As Race Director Bab says on the RunUK website: "If you are after a race in the London or Surrey area, and are looking for a well-organised 10K event or half marathon, you couldn’t have come to a better place! RunUK is a privately owned running organisation dedicated to arranging events for runners of all types and ages. We are committed to setting up running meets where everyone is welcome – anyone who wants to be fit, from new runners to those in a club, or who are at elite level".

Bab continues: "As organisers, we are friendly and approachable to everyone. As runners ourselves, we are open to all types of ideas and suggestions to make our 5K, 10K, and half marathon events even better. We take the time to listen to our event participants and constantly work on ways to further improve our events".

There are five races coming up to help pace yourself through the winter months: Richmond Half Marathon on Sunday 5 November 2023; Kingston 10K and Half Marathon on Sunday 26 November 2023; Richmond Half Marathon again on Sunday 18 February 2024 and Putney & Fulham Half Marathon on Sunday 14 April 2024.

Entry fees start at £25 for 10K races and £35 for half marathons. As you might expect, the River Thames towpath features prominently in the attractive routes used for the races. Past events have seen around 300 finishers and some fast times recorded, such as William Hagalid's 1:11:43 and Imogen Parker-Elme's 1:23:31 in last year's Kingston Half Marathon.
