Worms hide as Richmond RUNFEST opens for early birds
Following the successful staging of the sixth realbuzz Richmond RUNFEST last month the three main events are now open for early bird entries. Nearly 7,000 runners competed in the realbuzz.com Richmond RUNFEST Marathon, Half Marathon and Kew Gardens 10K in September and RUNFEST hopes to welcome record numbers back to Richmond in 2019.
Richmond RUNFEST combines big city standards of presentation with an extraordinarily rural feeling on courses that wind through the world famous Royal Botanical Gardens or follow the Thames Path through leafy Richmond, Ham and Kingston.
The marathon route passes three famous bridges, two Royal Palaces and runs alongside Old Father Thames, leading to its claim to be the 'world's most scenic marathon' according to the organisers. The latest winners were Nick Earl (City of Norwich, 2:32:33) and Melissah Gibson (Ealing Eagles, 2:59:51). Nick was well impressed with RUNFEST on his marathon debut: “The atmosphere was amazing and I have to say the volunteers made it. RUNFEST really is a treat of a race!”
The half marathon shares the spectacular Royal Botanical Gardens start at Kew and many of the features of the full marathon. It also claims to be 'London's flattest half' and both distance races conclude with an all-day music, food and beer festival in Old Deer Park, where the finish line is conveniently positioned. The title holders are Ollie Garrod (Epsom & Ewell Harriers, 1:10:42) and Phillipa Williams (Elswick Harriers, 1:21:53).
Kew Gardens 10K is a little different in that it will open the two-day festival on Saturday 14 September 2019. It takes place wholly within Kew Gardens on a scenic route. Runners will pass Palm House, Kew Palace, Queen Charlotte's Cottage and the newly restored Temperate House and Great Pagoda. The champions this year were Australian international Michael Shelley (30:21) and Rebecca Murray (Bedford & County, 34:40).
The weekend also features Kids Mile races on Saturday and the NIKE Family Mile on Sunday.
The seventh realbuzz.com Richmond RUNFEST will be held on 14-15 September, 2019.
