Embrace the dark side

Reminder time. The clocks go back this weekend (October 28). For some, this means an extra hour in bed. For runners it means an extra hour to go… running. And for parents of young children it means the darlings will be up at 5am instead of 6am and there’s a whole extra hour of the day to ‘get through’!

Seriously though, as runners we need to pay attention to the change in daylight hours that will soon be upon us. We need to get prepared for a long winter of dark evening sessions and cold morning runs. A big part of this preparation is making sure we have appropriate apparel, and probably the most important piece of winter kit we will invest in is a jacket.

An autumn/winter running jacket needs to offer protection against cold temperatures, wind and rain and if you can opt for one with high visibility components then even better. A jacket that has ticked all the boxes for us here at runABC is the Mizuno Static BT Softshell Running Hoodie.

This great-looking softshell top, has partial breath thermo placement on the chest which allows for better thermoregulation, working to keep you warm during the cold months. In addition, there is stretch fabric on the side and back panels for better range in motion allowing you move with minimum restriction.

The hoodie provides Impermalite technology for exceptional weather resistance, keeping you protected from the wind and rain and ensuring you stay one step ahead of the weather. Nightlite technology has also been added with reflective details that enhance your visibility during low-light conditions, keeping you safe when the sun starts to set.

Dark, cold nights don’t have to signal the end of your good efforts – invest in your winter running wardrobe this year and reap the springtime rewards that will surely follow.
