New Trail Races For North East

New trail races for Kielder event set to take place this summer...

The stunning trails of Kielder Waterside will host something special in 2025 with the launch of two brand-new ultra trail races as part of The Northumbrian weekend. On 29 June, runners will have the chance to test themselves on either a 50K Ultra or a 20K trail race, taking on rugged terrain, breathtaking scenery and a finish line like no other on the shores of Kielder Water.

For the first time, competitors will tackle freshly designed routes including the newly unveiled Lonesome Pine Trail, a spectacular stretch of wilderness that showcases the very best of Northumberland’s remote beauty. Whether chasing a UTMB Index score or simply looking for an unforgettable day on the trails, this event offers the perfect blend of challenge and scenery.

Both distances start at Kielder Waterside where runners will weave through forests, lakeside paths and undulating hills taking in some of the most scenic views in the region. The 50K Ultra begins with an exhilarating 25K loop before joining the Northumbrian triathlon run route where athletes will complete two final laps of Bull Crag peninsula - a section designed to create an electric atmosphere as runners pass through the event village en route to the iconic lakeside finish.

Race Director Steve Cram expressed his excitement for the event, saying: "This is a rare and exciting opportunity to explore stunning trails at Kielder that have only just been opened to the public. With limited capacity, early sign-up is strongly recommended to secure a place in what promises to be one of the most exciting new ultra trail events of the year."
