Port Vale parkrun Needs You!
New parkrun for Staffordshire planned for later this year...
A brand-new parkrun is set to launch later this year at Port Vale’s Vale Park stadium in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent and organisers are calling for volunteers to help get the event off the ground. The route will take participants on a 5K course weaving through the grounds surrounding Vale Park with the finish line ideally located inside or near the stadium.
The initiative is being led by the Port Vale FC Foundation, with the aim of encouraging healthier lifestyles and building stronger community connections and it is hoped that it will be ready to begin in time for the 2025/26 football season.
The idea has been in development for over 15 months, spearheaded by Foundation member Gemma Finney and club doctor Tom Leggett. Organisers are hoping to attract local residents and use the football club as a way to bring people together. They say: "The club means so much to the area and this is a chance to give something back to the community."
In addition to the run, there are plans for post-event refreshments and social gatherings at the stadium, helping foster a welcoming environment for all participants and volunteers.
The new Vale Park Parkrun team is now recruiting volunteers to help make the event a success. Training and trial events will be offered to those interested, and organisers are keen to hear from anyone who can commit regularly or occasionally. Organisers comment: "There are lots of roles to fill and we hope to build a strong core team. Even if someone can only help for part of the season or occasionally, that support is hugely valuable.”
Anyone interested in volunteering can get in touch with Gemma Finney (gemma.finney@port-vale.co.uk).
