Killer Mile Returns

This mile race is a tough, uphill battle that requires real determination...

One of the UK’s toughest uphill races returns on Thursday 7 May 2026 as the Killer Mile Challenge invites runners to take on the brutal ascent of Mow Cop in Stoke on Trent. The iconic one mile climb rises 570 feet from Scholar Green to the village summit and includes sections with a punishing 25% gradient, making it one of the most demanding short-distance tests on the racing calendar.

The event promises a fierce but rewarding challenge with every finisher receiving a medal, while podium prizes and cash rewards will be offered to anyone who breaks the long standing men’s or women’s course records.

Spectators traditionally line the route to cheer runners up the hill, and this next year's race will again finish with refreshments and celebrations at the Community Church Hall, where cakes, drinks and local food stalls will add to the festival atmosphere.

Organisers say: "Our event is a much-loved local event, with proceeds supporting schools, charities and community projects. We expect entries to go quickly when registration opens on Friday 12 December - so get ready!"
