New Half For Hartlepool

Entries are open for the inaugural Hartlepool Half Marathon...

A brand new half marathon is set to hit the North East race calendar this spring as the Hartlepool Half Marathon launches on 31 May. Organised by Wild Deer Events, the new 13.1 mile race will be based at Hartlepool Marina and promises a flat, fast and scenic coastal route ideal for runners of all abilities.

Organisers told us: "With around 200 feet of elevation expected, the course is being designed with personal bests firmly in mind while still showcasing the area’s sea views."

Final confirmation of the exact route is still to come as organisers work with Hartlepool Council, Active Hartlepool and other local stakeholders. Ongoing building work near the Highlight Leisure Centre has meant plans are being carefully reviewed, but following recent meetings, organisers say a preferred route has been agreed in principle and full details will be released as soon as sign off is complete.

The organisers describe the race as a chance to be part of something new, combining a supportive event atmosphere with the appeal of running alongside the coast. The inaugural edition is expected to attract strong interest from club runners and first time half marathoners alike, with places limited in the first year.

All finishers will receive a medal, Wild Deer merchandise, plus snacks and a drink at the finish line.
