Five Star Racing In Hale
Make plans for a February race date in Greater Manchester...
The Watersons Hale 10K and Ashley Hall 3K return on 15 February next year, with thousands of runners expected to take to the closed roads and parkland of Hale, Bowdon and Ashley. The 2026 race will be the fifth edition of the 10K and follows two consecutive years of advance sell outs. So the advice is - be quick to secure your spot!
The route starts in the picturesque village of Hale in South Manchester, crossing the iconic railway crossing and running through the heart of the village high street before heading out towards Ashley. From there, runners weave along scenic country lanes, passing landmarks such as the Greyhound public house before entering the south gates of Ashley Hall and finishing within the spectacular grounds of the historic venue.
The race benefits from full road closures from start to finish, offering a rare opportunity to run through traffic free village streets and countryside. Pacers for a wide range of abilities add to the race experience, while the undulating but fair course provides both challenge and enjoyment.
Organisers say: "Race day energy is a major part of what makes the Watersons Hale 10K stand out. Supporters line the route and the finish area at Ashley Hall becomes a focal point for post race celebrations. Music, entertainment and a lively atmosphere ensure the experience continues well beyond the finish line, making the event about more than just a finishing time."
Alongside the 10K, the Ashley Hall 3K is held entirely within the grounds of Ashley Hall on a flat, traffic free course that combines private lanes and open fields. Starting and finishing on the same impressive finish line as the 10K, the race is open to a wide range of ages and abilities. All participants receive a timing chip, race bib and a bespoke medal at the finish.
The 2025 Watersons Hale 10K attracted more than 1300 runners. The men’s race was won by Ross Harrison of Blackburn Harriers AC in a time of 30:50, while Alice Wright took the women’s title in 35:23.
