Great Bristol Run preview image 2023

Bristol's Back In Business!

AJ Bell Great Bristol Run is back for another spectacular running celebration

Ah, Brizzle! The city that's also a county – or the county that's also a city! The half-million resident Bristolians are rightly proud of their city, which is frequently listed among top places to live in the UK.

Nestled in the hills of South West England, bordered by Gloucestershire to the north and Somerset in the south, there are plenty of broad, flat roads beside the River Avon that the city straddles to provide a scenic route for the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run that returns on Sunday, 14 May 2023.

The event has been part of the city since 1989 and each year it continues to get better! This year 15,000 or more runners will again push their perseverance and passion to the limit on the super-scenic 10K and half marathon routes, with Clifton Suspension Bridge as the backdrop.

Enthusiastic supporters, local bands, and charities all come together to cheer runners through the city, creating the region’s biggest and best running event. It's an unbelievable atmosphere that’s simply not to be missed. The stunning views, inspiring history, and creative graffiti murals alongside the course will keep you focused and motivated right to the finish line.

This year the 10K – which incorporates the UK's only Visually Impaired athlete's challenge – will start first an hour before the half marathon at 9:30am. Final wave start times and colours will be confirmed as race numbers are issued.

Don't forget the AJ Bell Great Bristol Family Run also taking place on the same day for young entrants aged 3+. This high-energy, one-mile fun run was a complete sell-out in 2022 and enjoyed fantastic crowd support.

Last year's Great Bristol Run half marathon champions were Jacob Brockmann (Thames Hare & Hounds, 1:10:40) and Charlotte Taylor-Green (Clevedon, 1:15:49). The 10K winners were M35 Tom Merson (Exmouth Harriers, 30:51) and W40 Helen Gaunt (Tonbridge AC, 35:41) in a race that included a Masters International competition – as we reported here.

Entries are still available at the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run website here.
