Gisburn Forest A Runner's Paradise

The location of this scenic trail event is a 'haven for outdoor enthusiasts'...

Lancashire's Gisburn Forest Trail Races are set to return on 2 August offering runners the chance to experience one of the most scenic trail routes in the UK, hosted by Pennine Trails, the event will once again feature both 10K and Half Marathon distances.

Known for its enchanting woodland trails and vast, scenic landscapes, Gisburn Forest is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. While typically explored by hikers and mountain bikers, race day will transform the forest into a runner’s paradise, with paths winding through fairy-tale-like woodlands and dramatic forest horizons.

Organisers say: "We never like to scream and shout too much about our routes, as not every route is to everyone's taste... but in this case, we can wholeheartedly say, this is one of the best ever trail routes we've run on and we're only being a smidge bias when we say that.

"The whole route feels like you're running in a cross between sasquatch country and fairytale-esque woodlands. It can be described as easy for first time runners but there's so much enjoyable paths, tracks and trails that the most seasoned and quickest of trail runners are going to fall in love with the sport all over again."

The 10K race follows a popular and well-loved route, starting at the Forest Hub, runners will quickly immerse themselves in the beauty of 'The 8', a thrilling, twisty-turny bike trail, before crossing the Stocks Reservoir bridge and entering the vast forest tracks. The Half Marathon course extends beyond the 10K route, leading runners through rugged terrain, winding bike trails, a shin-deep river crossing, and a long wooden bridge.

To refuel before and after the race, runners and spectators can visit the on-site café at the Gisburn Forest Hub which will be serving coffee and cake throughout the event.
