Final places remaining for Leicestershire League season finale...
The Leicestershire Road Running League draws to a close on 12 October with the fifth running of the Rotherby 8, and organisers are keen to let local runners know that there are still over 100 places available for runners keen to be part of the season finale.
Starting and finishing at Rotherby Lodge Farm, the undulating eight-mile course winds its way through the picturesque villages of the Wreake Valley, taking in Gaddesby and Ashby Folville before returning to the farm for the finish. The route is a true test of strength, with rolling countryside stretches that will challenge legs and lungs in equal measure, while rewarding participants with stunning rural views.
Last year’s race saw a strong field of 450 runners and impressive performances at the front. International athlete Gemma Steel claimed victory in the women’s race in 46:02, while Mo Hussein took the overall win in 40:35. Speaking after her win, Steel praised the event, saying: “Superb organisation, and thanks to the great marshals who kept you going on a tough course. The encouragement was definitely needed.”
With the final race of the league promising competitive action at the sharp end and plenty of atmosphere for all abilities, the Rotherby 8 will once again provide a fitting finale to a successful season.
