England Athletics Virtual Coach scheme

Top up your 10K skills with EA Virtual Coach

England Athletics launches virtual coach scheme for everyone

Virtual competition has become synonymous with the Coronavirus lock-down and the 'new normal', whatever that may look like. Clubs and race promoters have provided an endless stream of virtual challenges and England Athletics have even upgraded to promote virtual Championship events, with medals awarded subject to official scrutiny of performances.

Perhaps the obvious next step, while we await the further lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, is to offer access to leading coaches for all standards of athletes, with an examination by a virtual time trial to assess progress. Hence, England Athletics' Virtual Coach scheme and your chance to train like the pros and then test yourself over 10K.

Signing up to EA's Virtual Coach scheme, which goes live on Monday 13 July, provides exclusive access to a dedicated EA Performance Coach to support you on your journey as you target a 10K PB. Tom Craggs (South), Mark Brace (South-West), and Darren Reevell (North) are the three international level coaches on stand-by for the first phase of Virtual Coach.

The programme lasts 14 weeks and commences with 12 weeks (including a 14-day free trial) of training plans and support. This is followed by one week to complete your 10K time trial and a final week of recovery sessions – just like the elite!

There are just 600 places available for this release of Virtual Coach and the cost is £25 per month after the initial free trial, discounted by 40% to £15 for any of the 187,000 registered athletes or 130,000 RunTogether active runners affiliated to England Athletics.

The fee covers interactive coaching support via an exclusive weekly webinar; a members-only online forum; tailored training plan; interactive training calendar that will sync with your training app or fitness tracker; personal weekly emails; dedicated message boards and a social wall to discuss topics relevant to your personal running goals.

So if you have always wanted to be coached and experience the guidance of the experts, particularly if you are not yet ready to make the leap into the unknown of club or running group membership, this could be your ticket to a swifter 10K and a more confident approach.
