Eilish McColgan Starts The Great North Run

Eilish To Run In Glasgow

Eilish McColgan will complete her season on the streets of Glasgow, at the Great Scottish Run...

There is now just over a week until one of Scotland's biggest weekends of running returns to the country's biggest city! The Great Scottish Run is in countdown mode and runners will be eager to toe the start line when they hear that Eilish McColgan will be taking part in the 10K race on Sunday 2 October.

The 31-year-old Scot has had an extraordinary year that saw her set a new British record over 5K on the roads and beat Paula Radcliffe’s 21-year-old British half marathon record. She took the longstanding European and UK 10K record at the Great Manchester Run and won Commonwealth Gold and Silver for Team Scotland in Birmingham.

Eilish continued her outstanding season securing two additional medals at the European Championships in Munich, with a silver in the 10,000 metres and bronze for the 5,000. She is now the first British distance runner to compete in six championship outdoor finals in the same season.

Eilish commented: “It’s been a great year for me, culminating in my medals on the track, the highlight was my Commonwealth Games victory, roared on by the crowd. After postponing my marathon debut until next year and being involved in the Great North Run, I feel I have one more race left in me this season.”

“I can think of no better place to do that than to come home and take to the streets of Glasgow over 10K on 2 October at the Great Scottish Run.”

Paul Foster, Chief Executive of the Great Run Company said: “It was a real honour to see Eilish get the Great North Run underway. She has been an amazing ambassador for our sport and continues to inspire people around the UK on and off the track.

“It’s an incredibly exciting prospect to have Eilish completing a stellar season with a debut performance at the Great Scottish Run. I’m sure our runners will be delighted to have the opportunity to run alongside her in person.”

More than 20,000 people have already entered this year’s event, which returns after a three year COVID enforced absence. Entries will remain open until Friday 30 September so if you'd like to join Eilish in Glasgow you know what to do.
