Cairn Table Hill Race

A Fine Hill To Run

Runners are set to tackle one of Ayrshire’s finest hills this summer...

If you’re a fan of hill running, or just looking for a new kind of challenge, then Ayrshire's Cairn Table Hill Race could be the perfect midsummer adventure on Wednesday 16 July.

This scenic and demanding event is part of the Bog & Burn series which is a collection of 13 evening hill races held across Central Scotland throughout the spring and summer. Now in full swing, the series continues into August, with Cairn Table the penultimate event.

Located in Muirkirk, East Ayrshire, Cairn Table is hailed by organisers as one of the region’s finest hills, a bold claim that’s sure to appeal to keen climbers and off-road runners alike. The race itself covers 7.2K with 360 metres of climbing, set on an out-and-back route that is both unmarked and rugged.

The format is a chip-timed time trial, with runners allowed to start any time between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Registration must be completed in advance via EntryCentral – no entries will be taken on the night. Sign-in is at the Walkers Car Park before making your way to the start.

Organisers are clear, commenting: "This is a true hill race. It is not a trail or cross country event, and runners must be comfortable navigating rough, unmarked terrain without support. Self-reliance and hill-running experience are essential."

Whether you’re training for a bigger mountain event, chasing a new kind of runner’s high or just looking to test your legs on a midweek climb, Cairn Table promises grit, challenge and stunning views.
