Get Buckled In For Buckingham Half

With its scenic route and relaxed approach this half marathon is an appealing choice for runners looking for a spring event in 2026...

The Buckingham Half Marathon returns on Sunday 17 May 2026 for its eighth edition, once again offering runners the chance to enjoy a friendly road race through some scenic countryside. Starting and finishing at Maids Moreton Playing Fields in Buckingham the 13.1 mile route follows a single lap, anti clockwise loop on quiet country lanes and tarmac paths, with short sections of grass at the start and finish.

Runners are treated to scenic views as the course passes through the villages of Leckhampstead, Wicken and Akeley, delivering a rural feel that sets it apart from many busier road races. While the course is described as undulating, the climbs are steady rather than severe and, as it is a circular route, every ascent is balanced by a descent.

Organisers are clear that the Buckingham Half Marathon is not marketed as a pure personal best course, instead encouraging runners to enjoy the experience and the surroundings. That said, the existing course records underline the quality of the route, with the men’s mark standing at 1:14:15 seconds set in 2022 and the women’s record at 1:25:40 set in 2023.

One of the standout features of the event is its excellent value. It remains one of the most affordable half marathons on the calendar and includes a bespoke medal that changes each year, along with free cake, tea and coffee for all finishers. Runners can also take advantage of free event photos, free parking next to the registration building and a relaxed, club run atmosphere.

For 2026 there is a new twist at the finish, with runners able to choose their own medal from a selection on offer. Those who have completed all seven previous editions are invited to contact the organisers to arrange a special commemorative medal.

In addition to the half marathon, there will also be children’s races with age appropriate distances for those aged 4 to 14, making it a family-friendly day out.
