Brighton Beacon Burns Bright
Charity is the way to join the 36th Altra Brighton Half Marathon 2026...
runABC South can reveal that charity places are still available for the 36th Altra Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday, 1 March 2026. Places are still open for the Youth Race on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The race is organised by Laine8 Events, the official event partner of The Sussex Beacon Hospice, the main beneficiary of the event.
Over 10,000 runners are expected in Brighton to enjoy the fast, flat, 13.1-mile seafront course, including celebrity runners Olly Alexander (singer, actor and LGBTQ activist), Chris Oliver (SAS Who Dares Wins) and Zoe Lyons (comedian and TV presenter), who are all running to raise money for The Sussex Beacon Hospice.
The race organisers are also thrilled to announce that Altra Running is returning as the headline sponsor. Altra was founded in the US to unleash human potential by inspiring the world to move naturally: with their unique FootShape Toe Box and Zero to Low Drop, Altra's shoes are designed to provide a comfortable running experience.
The Altra Brighton Half Marathon starts from Hove Lawns before sweeping east along Brighton seafront past city landmarks such as the i360, Brighton Palace Pier, and the Royal Pavilion, continuing to the bracing cliff tops of East Brighton. Runners then head back to Madeira Drive and Hove Lagoon, with the colourful beach huts of Hove seafront, before finally heading to the finish line on Hove Lawns.
The Youth Race will take place the day before the main event, with hundreds of junior runners aged 7-17 expected to take on the mile challenge on Hove Lawns. The chip-timed race is open to all abilities, and all participants will receive a technical T-shirt and medal, plus prizes for the first three runners in each age category.
The Sussex Beacon Hospice provides specialist support and care for people living with HIV. The Altra Brighton Half Marathon raises over £1 million for charities across Sussex and the UK each year, and is the biggest annual fundraiser for The Sussex Beacon Hospice. The Sussex Beacon Hospice will have a record number of runners, aiming to beat last year’s fundraising total of over £120,000.
In perfect running conditions, this year's Brighton Half Marathon champions were Seyfu Jamaal (London Heathside AC), who smashed the men's course record with 1:04:30, and Christa Cain (Best Athletics, 1:16:19), as 8,902 finished the race in less than five hours.
