Brighton Half Marathon is one of the UK's established early season road races, owned by local charity The Sussex Beacon and organised by Laine8 Events. First held in the early 1990s, the event attracts runners to Brighton and Hove for a 13.1 mile race combining historic city landmarks with an extended stretch of Sussex coastline.
Starting at Hove Lawns, the course heads east past Brighton Palace Pier and the Royal Pavilion before turning towards the clifftop roads overlooking the English Channel. Runners follow Marine Parade and Marine Drive towards Roedean, returning along Madeira Drive before continuing west past the West Pier and towards Hove Lagoon. The final miles follow Hove Promenade back to the finish, with the predominantly flat, traffic free route providing opportunities for fast times.
The event includes a wheelchair race and a programme of one mile youth races for children aged seven to 17. Chip timing, pacers, medical support and water stations are provided, while the race raises funds for The Sussex Beacon and other charities.
