This Race is Sweet...
Bournville's Leafy 10K makes a return this autumn, with its ever-popular multi-terrain course taking centre stage...
This year's Bournville Leafy 10K will take place on 1 October and will once again see runners looking for the sweet taste of success on the two lap, multi-terrain course 10K through the picturesque parkland and paths of leafy Bournville.
The race starts at Rowheath Playing Fields opposite the Pavilion which was built by the Cadbury Family in 1924 for their workers. Nowadays Bournville Harriers use the pavilion as their base, the club is renowned for its well-organised event that always attracts a good turnout from the local running community.
One of the reasons for the race's popularity is the course which takes runners on a tour of the parks and streets of south west Birmingham. Those taking park can expect a mixture of terrain from grass to woodland, paths and roads plus a few hills, and plenty of marshals are on hand to keep everyone going in the right direction.
There are no cut-off times and all finishers will earn themselves a well-stocked goody bag and medal. There will be refreshments including homemade cakes to indulge in for which donations in support of Headway Birmingham and Solihull are welcome.
In 2022 it was Matthew Pollard of BRAT who took home first place in a time of 35:47 while first female was Catherine Glover in 42:18.
