An established Cambridgeshire 10K will look a little different this autumn when the Bonfire Burn returns to Histon and Impington on Sunday 1 November.
The popular community race regularly attracts more than 700 runners and has been part of the local calendar since at least 2011. In 2026, however, organisers have had to revise sections of the route because the Guided Busway Bridleway can no longer be used for events on health and safety grounds.
The start and finish remain at Histon and Impington Recreation Ground, with the mostly tarmac 10K heading through the surrounding countryside and touching the northern edge of Cambridge.
Bonfire Burn has grown considerably since its early editions. The third running took place in 2013, while the following year's race recorded 869 finishers. After a virtual edition during the pandemic, more than 570 runners returned for the physical race in 2021.
The event is organised by local charity Friends of Histon & Impington Community, known as HI Friends, with support from village running club HI Runners. HI Friends uses sport and community events alongside its wider work supporting local wellbeing.
That community identity extends to the finish line. Rather than a conventional metal medal, every runner receives a distinctive wooden Bonfire Burn medal, while trophies cover male and female age categories from under 18 through to over 60.
The race starts at 10:30am and is open to runners aged 13 and above.
A familiar November fixture, a strong village atmosphere and, this year, a slightly different journey around Histon and Impington.
