Some big changes are coming for the 11th year of the ABP Southampton Marathon Festival on Sunday, 3rd May 2026, and it’s shaping up to be the biggest and most exciting edition yet.

The event has firmly established itself as one of the South Coast’s must-do running festivals, welcoming thousands of runners and their supporters to Southampton for a full day of sport, celebration and community spirit.

Last year, just under 7,000 runners competed in a choice of five events: the ABP Southampton Marathon, ABP Southampton Half Marathon, ABP Southampton 10K, ABP Southampton 5K, and ABP Southampton Mile Fun Run, making the event accessible to everyone from first-timers to experienced marathoners.

The major change this year is a brand-new start line at Dock Gate 8, located in Southampton’s historic docks, and home of title partner Associated British Ports (ABP). The new setting promises an exciting atmosphere and a fresh race-day experience.

Race morning will also feature a truly unforgettable moment. To mark the 90th anniversary of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire aircraft, runners will be treated to an 8-minute Spitfire flying display at 8:30am, just before the race begins, as a powerful nod to Southampton’s aviation heritage, and an exciting way to start the day.

With the adrenaline fired up by the plane that changed the course of history, becoming an enduring symbol of courage and innovation, the race action will begin with up to 10,000 runners setting off from 9:00am. You will run past Southampton’s iconic landmarks, from the scenic waterfront to the beautiful greenery of The Common.

Feel the incredible energy as the community lines the streets, cheering you on through St Mary’s Stadium and over the Itchen Bridge, with stunning city views. Plus, enjoy epic live music along the route, keeping the atmosphere electric and your motivation high. Be part of one of the South Coast’s biggest running events!

And the celebrations won’t stop at the finish line. With the event falling on a Bank Holiday Weekend, the festival will conclude with an official Marathon After Party, featuring live music in the evening, delivered in collaboration with Music in the City. With a new start line, a historic flypast, and a full festival atmosphere, the ABP Southampton Marathon Festival 2026 promises a race day to remember, both on and off the course.
