Great Park Run For Women In Windsor
“It's more than a race – it's a community”. This is the bold claim for the Windsor Women's 10K on Saturday, 29 September and early bird entries for this wonderful celebration of women's health and fitness opened this month.
Promoted by Running4Women, the race regularly draws more than 700 competitors to the iconic Long Walk in front of Windsor Castle for the undulating but always interesting route. Community spirit is engendered by this event sharing the platform with Run Windsor Weekend which brings around 5,000 runners to the attractive environs of Windsor Great Park for a two day festival of running, sports fashion and nutrition.
Last year's champion, Georgie Bruinvels (Aldershot), could be back seeking a hat trick of victories, representing race sponsors Hoka One One. Her winning time in 2017 was 37:19. There were 180 finishers inside an hour and 620 completed the course in 2:16:34.
Organisers reckon there are a dozen reasons to choose Windsor Women's 10k:
- Free parking adjacent to Race Village.
- Free finishers T-shirt.
- Free commemorative finishers medal.
- Free children’s entertainment.
- Free secure baggage drop.
- Traffic free course.
- Food & drink franchises.
- Toilets on site and on course.
- Three drinks stations manned by experienced volunteers.
- Enthusiastic course marshals.
- First class medical support.
- Iconic venue!
You could add the unique, highly supportive atmosphere generated by all the competitors and encouraged by the experienced race promoters to that list. Early bird entries are now open and cost £22.50 (UKA affiliated) or £24.50 (unaffiliated) until 31 May representing a saving of £9.50 over late entry fees.
