Challenging Events' Winchester Half Marathon is...challenging!
They don't conceal it from you at the Winchester Half Marathon, promoted by Challenging Events on Sunday 22 September 2024. It's hilly – with up to 281 metres of elevation – and the event website describes the race as: "Hampshire's Historic Hilly Running Event".
James Lovell (pictured above) looks well pleased with his 22nd position last year in 1:30:51. This was the prolific parkrunner's only official half marathon result to date and Lovell showed that Winchester can be a quick course despite its scenic nature.
Last year's overall winner – retaining his title in the process – was George King (Winchester & District AC, 1:13:19) and the women's champion was Rachel Olds (unattached, 1:34:10). There were 614 finishers in 3:39:56 and 125 of those beat 1:45:00 on the testing course.
