Run Like A Rat
There are plenty of Rat Fans of this Yorkshire multi-terrain event...
You don't have to be a part of the rat race to be a part of the Crag Rat Run which will return to Knaresborough this autumn on 22 September. The 5 mile mixed-terrain race is organised by Knaresborough Striders and takes its unique name from the term for a person born in Knaresborough - a Crag Rat!
The route starts at Knaresborough Cricket Club and takes runners along trails descending the crag to a tarmacked section alongside the River Nidd; mixed terrain leads to a trail through woodland before a fast tarmac section returns runners to a narrow path adjacent to the river. Crossing the bridge near the Petryfying Well, there is a further riverside section before ascending back up the crag to the finish line.
Organisers say: "The course is suitable for all abilities whether affilliated to a running club or not - a great multi-terrain option for anyone this autumn."
The fun doesn't stop when the racing ends as we will be serving tea, coffee and cakes throughout the event for cash donations. Money raised will go to two charities: Saint Michael's Hospice and The MS Society. The clubhouse bar will open from 11.30 onwards. where a medal and goodies will be presented to all finishers. We invite all participants to enjoy the refreshments and stay for our prize giving following the race.
Knaresborough Striders are an active group and say: "Our aim is to bring together people from the Knaresborough area to enjoy the delights of ‘striding’ and to provide support to those wishing to get started, get faster or go for longer! We look forward to welcoming you to our annual community event, We promise a great community atmosphere, a medal and plenty of cake!"
