Great expectations for Great Bristol Run
It's an indescribable soup of pain and joy!
This is the feeling (pictured above) you will get when you finish the Great Bristol Run Half Marathon on Sunday (19 September). Juliette and Marie Clare captured the essence of the event with their expressions of pride and joy, moments after completing the iconic event.
But what else can you expect from the 2021 Great Bristol Run, finally back in the great maritime city after Covid knocked out the 2020 edition? Great Run has provided the lowdown on everything you’ll experience at this year’s event...
The Route
For the first time, both 10K and Half Marathon races will be held on the same day. A new route for the 10K will showcase Bristol's city highlights including stunning Queens Square, Prince Street Bridge, and Harbourside. Meanwhile, the half marathon features spectacular views of Clifton Suspension Bridge plus the vibrant waterfront and historic Castle Park.
The Music
While up to 10,000 runners will make their own rhythm with the beat of their feet, Great Bristol Run is famed for its non-stop musical entertainment. With eleven entertainment zones for the half marathon (seven for the 10K) plus the Beats Boost Zone and high-energy Hits Radio team there will be rocking music to keep you motivated every step of the way.
The Pacers
The fast and flat course facilitates PB chasers and there will be pacers provided from 40:00 to 1:10:00 in the 10K and 1:30:00 to 2:30:00 for the 13.1 miles. With that support and cheering crowds to lean on, that PB is in the bag.
The Family Fun
Star spotting is always a thing at Great Bristol Run and runners aged 3+ can enjoy the big event experience with music and encouragement the whole way round, with a very special medal at the finish. Everyone will be joined by Wallace & Gromit who will start the Great Bristol Family Run in style as supporters of The Grand Appeal (Bristol’s Children’s Hospital Charity).
The Rewards
It's that indescribable soup of achievement, elation, exhaustion, and joy as you complete your personal challenge. The pain of the effort will soon be forgotten as you grab a selfie with your shiny new medal; slip on the snazzy finisher's t-shirt and rummage through your well-stocked goody bag!
