Wigan's Top Ten!

Wigan 10K returns for 2022, and it's celebrating a milestone...

There are less than 40 days left until the 10th staging of the Wigan 10K which, this year, will take place on Sunday 11 September.

As in previous years, the 10K route will start and finish on Market Street in Wigan town centre. There will be live entertainment on stage, and the continental food markets will be in town, so organisers are encouraging all runners and spectators to hang around in the town after the run to make the most of the atmosphere.

This event is organised in conjunction with Team JJ, and all registration fees go directly to the charity to be invested in research and clinical positions to help in the battle to find treatments and end Duchenne for all boys living with this horrible muscle wasting and ultimately incurable condition.

A spokesperson from the organising team commented: "On September 11th we will be celebrating a double milestone as it will be our 10th 10k but also Joining Jack was launched ten years ago. The charity has come a long way and you have all helped to make a big difference in the last 10 years, thank you!"

Last year it was Preston Harrier, Joe Monk who won the race in 31:09 with second place Robert Byers, hot on his heels in 33:10! Third place male went to Stephen Campbell of Knowsley Harriers in 33:53.

In the womens race it was hometown runner Vicky Bryant of Wigan Phoenix AAC who won in a time of 38:08. Second place went to Carmel Edwards of Btr Road Runners in 38:56 and third was claimed by Paiwan Dodd in 42:42.

This year, prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third male and female runners, as well as the winners of a number of other categories, and there will be an awards ceremony for the winners held on the day on the main stage in the town centre. If you don't expect a podium position, then don't worry as all runners will receive a finisher's goody bag and medal.

Commenting on Facebook after the 2021 race, Clare Louise Mills said: "Been on the start line for every single one and will be there again this year, but by far my favourite has to be the year me and my mum did it dressed as Mary Poppins and Bert."
