Two new Shropshire events from One Running Movement
One Running Movement has announced two new events taking place in Shropshire this year for young runners aged 4 to 12 and 13+ in a non-competitive environment. Children build confidence and self-esteem whilst getting fit and having fun, learning habits that will set them up for life.
The first One Running Movement Shropshire event is on Saturday 4 April at the Shropshire County Showground, a popular venue that hosts Shrewsbury Half Marathon amongst others. The first Schools Half Marathon trialled there in 2017 to great success; 1,800 pupils took part in 2019.
Then it’s over to Telford Athletic Stadium for the second consecutive year following an auspicious debut in June 2019. One Running Movement Telford & Wrekin will be there on Saturday 4 July and a large turnout is expected.
These events are aimed at youngsters aged 4 to 12 participating in Schools Running Movement and those aged 13+ in One Running Movement with a choice of half marathon and marathon distance. They complete 12 miles or 25 miles cumulatively at school with the final 1.1 or 1.2 miles at these venues where they will experience a big city race finish. There is a virtual option for any individual, group or school unable to attend.
Youngsters in both races will finish together in front of a packed, cheering crowd of family and friends to be presented with their medal and carton of water.
One Running Movement founders Rebecca Richardson and Joe Williams are working with 12 partners and Save The Children their global charity partner.
More than 1,600 have signed up for Shropshire and there are still places available this school year at the One Running Movement website.
