The Island Run by Sporting Events UK

Race The Island

Sporting Events UK and Rotary Club of Minster-on-Sea invite you to The Island Run...

If you are looking for a flat, fast 10K or 5K, you need to head to 'The Island'. Sporting Events UK is promoting The Island Run along the seafront of Sheerness and Minster-on-Sea, Kent, on Sunday, 19th April 2026. Entries will close on Wednesday, 15th April at 1:00pm.

Sporting Events UK proclaims itself as the home of the best running events. Passionate about sport, they believe in delivering the best event experiences for everyone taking part, creating a great atmosphere, and making sure everyone feels welcome.

That's quite a claim, but the joy experienced by Tracy Holt, Debbie Hodgson, and Natalie Simpson in a previous edition of this event is evident in the image above!

This year, the Rotary Club of Minster-on-Sea and Sporting Events UK have teamed up to bring you this great event. The Island Run has been taking place for over 40 years in various formats, raising money for local charities in the area.

The flat seafront of Sheerness and Minster-on-Sea makes the course ideal for those chasing a PB, and it's great for beginners as well. The organisers say: "We are sure you will love this route, which is sure to attract good numbers of runners and supporters! Every finisher will get a unique medal, specially commissioned for the event."

There are toilet facilities and car parking available near the start. The event website includes some great tips on nutrition and hydration for training and on race day. There is also a useful live chat facility for any questions you may have.

Last year's 10K winners were Douglas Aikman in 34:48 and Emily Hale in 41:25. The 5K was won in 18:09 by Aaron Stokes, with Kelly Smitherman (21:01) being the first woman and second overall. The 5K had 114 finishers in 56:16, while the 10K saw 330 home in 1:31:25.

To sign up for £16-£18 (5K) or £24-£26 (10K), visit The Island Run website here.
