Great Bristol Run is ready for the great comeback
Half Marathon or 10K - the choice is yours on 19th September
Whether you are a seasoned Great Bristol Run veteran simply aching to return, or a nervous potential first-timer, the Great Bristol news is that the countdown to race day is well and truly on! Sunday 19th September is the date for the comeback of Bristol's half marathon and, for the first time, the Great Bristol Run 10K will be held on the same day.
Great Bristol Run Half Marathon battled through Storm Bronagh in 2018 but was wiped out by Covid-19 pandemic measures in 2020, so organisers Great Run are banking on the odd year good omens from 2019 - when 10,000 successfully completed the race - to be replicated in 2021.
The half marathon features a spectacular route through the Avon Gorge and under the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge. The course follows the River Avon for eight miles before passing through Bristol Harbourside, entering the city at 11 miles for the final push to the finish.
The 2019 winners were Matt Clowes (Cardiff, 1:05:08) and Annabel Gummow (Winchester, 1:17:05), helping to demonstrate why Bristol has the fastest average finishing times of all the Great Run events in the UK. The flat, fast course attracts many elite runners but is equally ideally suited for beginners and those stepping up in distance.
Naturally, to keep runners safe, there will be Covid-secure measures in place but the thrill of running Bristol’s streets and the unbeatable feeling of crossing the finish line in Millennium Square will feel even more special this year after what we have all been through together.
So, with just 10 weeks to go, it's time for Great Bristol Run regulars and newcomers alike to secure that coveted place on the start line. As Great Run say on their website: "Join the return of Bristol’s much-loved running event, famous for the buzzing atmosphere and crowd support, beautiful route along the Avon Gorge, and iconic music and entertainment zones providing the soundtrack to your run. Whether you do it for the challenge, to fundraise for charity, or simply for fun, Be Your Greatest with us in 2021, the year of the comeback!.
