Top day for new Telford & Wrekin 10K
Shrewsbury AC take the men’s top 3.
It was the sweet taste of success for the Telford & Wrekin 10K that brought 400 runners of all abilities together on Easter Sunday (17 April) to take part in this inaugural race. Shrewsbury AC had three reasons to celebrate...
The event was organised by Kickass Endurance who after delays caused by Covid, were finally able to get it up and running in glorious conditions. Blue skies and sunshine were an added bonus as runners, many from local clubs and some further afield took on the traffic-managed course with non-stop encouragement from the marshals.
Event sponsor Anytime Fitness conducted a warm up ahead of the start at 9.30am where runners streamed away from outside the Ice Rink in Southwater. They continued along an undulating route on road/pavement that included a small grassy section near the end and there was plenty of appreciation for their efforts in unseasonably warm weather. They finished outside the Ice Rink.
Matthew Costello of Shrewsbury AC won the 2022 Telford & Wrekin 10K in 33:30 with teammate Jim Hickinbottom second in 33:54. Another teammate Connor Middleton came third in 34:42.
For the women, Sarah-Jane Desilva was the winner in 41:48 followed by Telford AC’s Rachel Coupe in 43:30. Samantha Nagy was third in 44:21.
The last runner crossed the line in 1:49:44. A full set of results is available via the runABC Midlands Race Listings page.
There were 397 finishers who received a medal and goody bag.
Kickass Endurance thanked all those who made it a day to remember, the traffic management team, Anytime Fitness, marshals, volunteers and, of course as the wonderful runners. Additional thanks go to those who donated items for Telford Food Bank.
Their next event is the Baggeridge 10K and 5K on 2 October.
