Still Hilly, Chocolatey And Very Much Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes 10 returns to Pateley Bridge on 1 November with ten testing Nidderdale miles and all the traditions of this popular Nidd Valley Road Runners race...
This relates to: Guy Fawkes 10
Guy Fawkes 10 returns on Sunday 1 November for its second edition at Pateley Bridge, after Nidd Valley Road Runners moved their flagship race around ten miles further up Nidderdale from its former home at Ripley.
The location changed, but the organisers were determined not to change its character. Their description of the modern Guy Fawkes 10 is wonderfully simple: just as hilly, chocolatey and long sleeved as ever.
Starting from Pateley Bridge Showground at 10:30am, runners head through Bewerley and towards Glasshouses before joining a short farm track beside the River Nidd. Most of the ten mile course is on road, but nobody should mistake that for an easy morning.
The serious climbing begins towards Dacre before the route continues around Heyshaw and Nought Moor. A fast descent eventually brings runners back towards Bewerley, although there is one final cheeky climb waiting before the finish.
Two drinks stations are positioned at approximately 3.5 and 7.5 miles, with a 2 hour 20 minute overall time limit.
The race has room for up to 1,000 runners, with more than 400 already registered for 2026.
Guy Fawkes 10 may have changed address, but the ingredients that built its reputation remain reassuringly intact. Ten miles, plenty of Nidderdale hills and, if tradition is anything to go by, chocolate waiting somewhere in the equation.
