Friendly Running Awaits At The Stur Half
Half marathon and 5K through rural Dorset...
This relates to: Sturminster Newton Half Marathon
The Stur Half & 5K return to Sturminster Newton on Sunday 2 August 2026, bringing another day of friendly racing through the quiet country lanes of North Dorset.
Organised by Dorset Doddlers, the event has been a popular fixture on the regional running calendar since 1990. The Half Marathon follows an undulating route through picturesque rural roads surrounding Sturminster Newton, while the multi terrain 5K and children's races make it a welcoming day out for runners and families alike. As a Dorset Road Race League fixture, the Half Marathon continues to attract both competitive club runners and those taking on the distance for the first time.
Dorset Doddlers have earned an excellent reputation for delivering friendly, well organised events that showcase the best of local running. Alongside the Stur Half, the club organises a varied programme of races throughout the year, helping to promote participation and build a thriving running community across North Dorset. Their emphasis on welcoming runners of all abilities has made the Stur Half one of the county's most popular road races.
Runners can look forward to free parking, regular water stations, enthusiastic marshals and one of the event's best loved traditions – a delicious Honeybun cake waiting at the finish alongside a wooden finisher's medal. The combination of scenic roads, warm hospitality and excellent organisation has earned the race a loyal following over many years.
Whether returning to chase a personal best or experiencing the event for the first time, runners can expect a memorable day of racing and a warm Dorset welcome from the Dorset Doddlers.
