10 Miles & Lots of Smiles In Stockport

Looking ahead to December with this fantastic 10 mile option in Stockport...

The Stockport 10 returns on 14 December, offering runners a festive-season challenge that blends tough hills, varied terrain and a famously welcoming atmosphere. A long-standing favourite on the North West running calendar, the race first took place in Edgeley before settling at its permanent home in Woodbank Park. Over the years, it has evolved into a 10-mile route that showcases the best of Offerton and Bredbury, combining roads, parks, bridleways and countryside into one memorable event.

Each year around 1,000 runners take part, drawn by the event’s smooth organisation, friendly marshals and inclusive community spirit. It is a race that balances serious competition with local charm, making it as appealing to seasoned club athletes as it is to first-time entrants.

The course starts with a 375-metre loop around the Woodbank Stadium track before heading out into an undulating route with two significant climbs at the 5-mile and 8.5-mile points. A 1.5-mile off-road section adds variety, while the hills provide a stern but satisfying test. The combination of challenging terrain, scenic views and the reward of crossing the finish line makes the Stockport 10 a highlight of the winter running season.

Stockport Harriers & AC ensure runners are well supported, offering chip timing, a bespoke finisher’s medal, free race photos, secure bag drop facilities and changing rooms with hot showers. For many, the camaraderie at the start and finish is just as memorable as the run itself, cementing the Stockport 10 as a must-do event for December.
