Sweet Taste Of Success At Cheadle Spring 5
A bumper day for City of Stoke AC and Trentham RC.
There were victories for Mike Harding and Isabella Shaw at the Cheadle Spring 5 (Sunday 5 March) as 113 runners marched into action at this well organised and marshalled race. The latter’s efforts were praised by those who took part.
Volunteers are essential to any event which cannot go ahead without their involvement. All credit goes to everyone who helped at the Cheadle Spring 5 Mile Road Race and made it a successful (and enjoyable) day for the runners, their friends and families.
Many local clubs were there including City of Stoke AC, Trentham RC, and Uttoxeter RR ready to take on the 5 mile town and country course with a historical aspect. They set off at 10am from Cheadle Academy on Station Road and were applauded by spectators and marshals on their tour of the town in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Their eyes were on the prizes – top three men and women and age group winners.
It was an outstanding win for Mike Harding of City of Stoke AC who crossed the line in 27:44 – over a minute in front of teammate Alexander Mayne who followed in 28:54. Lawrence Eccles was third in 29:12.
Isabella Shaw was 2nd lady at the Rugeley 10 a couple of weeks ago but the Trentham RC athlete went one better to become the women’s winner in 33:10. Tracy Bloor of City of Stoke AC finished second female in 33:32 with Deborah Thomas of Trentham RC close behind to finish third female in 33:37.
The overall results are available via the runABC Midlands Race Listings page.
Every finisher received a medal and if they called into The Master Potter pub afterwards, a free dessert on showing their bling. Runners could also treat themselves to new kit from the PAU Run & Ride stall and socialise with other runners at this well established race from Cheadle RC which offers great value for money in these tight times.
How many people beat their Alsager 5 time?
In the words of NSRRA Chairman Ken Rushton: “I know you runners like a challenge...” Any runner who ran a quicker time than at Alsager can be entered into a prize draw where amongst the prizes is free entry to the Cheadle 4 and Ipstones 5.
Now there’s an offer you can't resist...
