We have a busy weekend of sport: it’s England versus Sweden at the World Cup; the last remaining Briton, Kyle Edmund playing Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon and a sizzling selection of races across the Midlands.
It’s the turn of off-road this weekend beginning with the Shropshire Eastridge Trail Races and a choice of 5.3 miles or if you are feeling daring, a half marathon. Both races are held in the mining village of Snailbeach in Shropshire and take place on tracks and paths including Stiperstones Ridge. The 5 miler is a new addition this year and even though it’s a shorter distance it is no less challenging so bring your climbing legs with you.
Let’s take a trip over to the Peak District and more hills at the Maverick Inov-8 X Series. The event starts in the village of Hope and you might feel like you have abandoned this as you start to climb up Win Hill, Kinder Scout and Crowden Head although the views across Ladybower Reservoir will be worth the effort. There are three races to choose from - Short 16K, Middle 26K or Long 46K and cut off times will be strictly adhered to.
Then, we finish with the Wyre Forest Trail Half Marathon in Worcestershire. Organised by Amazing Feet RC, the location deserves its own medal with beautiful woodlands, orchards, rivers and of course, hills although these are gently rolling rather than steep. The race starts at 10.30am on Sunday and with hot weather forecast for that day, it will be a tough yet rewarding event.
