Spitfire 10K London 2018

Spitfire 10K set for take off in London

Following a sell-out inaugural event in 2018, the Spitfire 10K takes flight again from RAF London Museum at the historic former Hendon Aerodrome site on Saturday 31 August.

Race management team Nice Work is excited to launch the second Spitfire 10K in London, giving 800 runners the opportunity to run 10K on the former London Aerodrome and RAF Hendon site. The museum is celebrating the 'Summer of Spitfire' and the fascinating story of the first 100 years of the Royal Air Force. Competitors are encouraged to embrace the occasion by dressing appropriately - see below!

The route takes you round the edge of the London Aerodrome that once existed in Colindale. The race starts on the RAF Museum's green space, where you run on the ‘taxiway’ that evokes historic RAF Hendon, then leaves the museum past the Spitfire Gate Guardian.

Once you’ve completed two laps you run back into the museum past the Spitfire, through Hangar 1 and under the beautiful Short Sunderland flying boat, before crossing the finish line. At the end of the race all finishers will be rewarded with the exclusive Spitfire 10K medal.

The Spitfire 10K is held to commemorate the Battle of Britain and the men and women who defended Britain’s skies during the summer of 1940. In a unique and moving tribute, all the runners wear the name of a Battle of Britain pilot with their race number, to share the story of those RAF pilots who served in this pivotal aerial campaign with a whole new generation.

Entry to the RAF Museum is free of charge and all runners, spectators and supporters are encouraged to explore the extensive site on race day. There are three innovative galleries, flight simulators, a themed outdoor play area, a brand new cafe and a 4D theatre to view.

If you were unable to secure one of the 800 entries this year you can register for information for the 2020 event by email to: info@nice-work.org.uk

So it's chocks away for the lucky entrants for the main event at 10:00am or the supporting Spitfire Family Run at 9:15am on Sunday 31 August. Good luck everyone from runABC South.
