Shrewsbury Half Marathon

Shrewsbury's Double The Fun

Shrewsbury has two great race options for runners this autumn...

A route change for the 2023 Shrewsbury Half Marathon proved popular and will remain for the 2024 outing which is all set for 29 September when the Shrewsbury Half & Metric Half Marathon return to the pretty medieval town.

Organised by UKRunChat, this popular event starts and finishes at The West Mid Showground and now boasts a town centre route. Organisers say: "Our beautiful, scenic routes showcase Shrewsbury’s highlights including the Welsh & English Bridge, Kingsland, Porthill, Coleham, The Quarry, Frankwell, and the picturesque town centre with its medieval buildings and unique street names."

If you feel that you are not quite ready for the full half marathon then the 8.1-miles metric half marathon race is just for you and offers a fantastic stepping stone up from a 10K.

If you are looking for a new PB then the event's dedicated pacers are here to lead the way and guide you to your target time. Whether you're aiming to crush the 8.1 miles or conquer the 13.1 miles organisers have got you covered - ready, set, achieve!

Close to 1000 runners took part in the 2023 races with Jon Bowie of Shrewsbury AC winning the Half Marathon in a time of 1:13:14 while first female was Jemma Brown in 1:30:40. In the Metric Half it was Mark Thomas of Croft Ambrey RC who won in 46:20 with Emily Powell of Purbeck Runners taking gold in the womens race in 57:39.
