Safari Series Back In 2025

North East animal-themed race series returns this year...

Aberdeen-based charity Gathimba Edwards Foundation is back with the 2025 edition of its popular Safari Series, offering runners the chance to take on three unique races across different terrains and earn a stunning collection of safari animal-themed medals.

The series kicks off on 18 May with the all-new Duthie Park 5K. This fast and flat race introduces a brand-new course, making it the perfect challenge for runners looking to push their pace. There is also a kids 1K Fun Run on the same day.

Next up on 29 June is the much-loved Prime Four 3K & 1K races which will return for the fifth year. Participants will be joined by Zaza the Zebra, the series’ beloved mascot, named by children at Kingswellies Nursery. The series grand finale will see the Mel’s Union Street Mile take centre stage, with entries for this race opening in March.

Organisers told us: "The Safari Series welcomes runners of all abilities, from seasoned competitors to first-time racers. Each finisher will receive a beautifully designed Kenyan safari animal medal, making this series a must for collectors and wildlife enthusiasts alike."

The 2024 Safari Series saw a record-breaking turnout, with 340 runners and 102 volunteers helping to raise an impressive £6,075 for GEF’s projects in Kenya. The charity, which supports children and families with vital resources such as food, school supplies, and housing, is hoping for another incredible year in 2025.
