Finish At Alderton 5K

Running’s 5K Day

Saturday 1 September is officially the first day of autumn and the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Think crisp evening runs, Halloween-themed events and cross country! Here are three short 5K races to prepare with.

Try a monthly Saturday time trial race from North Derbyshire Running Club that is guaranteed to get the heart and legs going. The No Walk in the Park 5K is a series of races in Queen’s Park, Chesterfield that start at 9.30am, immediately followed by a 1500m fun run for children. If you are looking for an incentive...there are prizes awarded in all age categories based upon the fastest times from this race series.

There’s nothing like a fast, flat race on a traffic-free course to gladden the eye of any runner. The Alderton 5K in Gloucestershire fits the bill plus it also fundraises for a local charity, Alderton Acorns Pre-School open to toddlers and children aged up to 5 years. It is held on an out and back course along attractive country lanes and includes a lap of the football pitch before finishing near the penalty spot. There is a medal and water for every finisher.

The speedwork continues on Sunday at the Saxilby 5K and 2K Fun Run. The event is held in Lincolnshire so expect a flat route around the village of Saxilby, ideal if you are going for a PB! Similar to the Alderton 5K in that it is held on closed roads and there is a water station at the start/finish. The 5K starts at 9.30am with the 2K at 10.30am and there are medals for finishers in both events.
