Running Grand Prix Goodwood 2019

Runners will be motoring at Goodwood Grand Prix

It's another busy autumn weekend in runABC South region, with nearly 50 races in our comprehensive race listing ranging from 5K to whatever you can manage to run in 24 hours. We preview one fixture that will meet everyone's needs when it comes to choice of distance.

Goodwood Motor Circuit is the only classic motor racing track in the world to remain entirely in its original form – since hosting Britain's first post-war motor race meeting at a permanent circuit on 18 September 1948. More than 70 years later runners will share some of the thrills of those pioneer race drivers at Running Grand Prix at Goodwood on Sunday (22 September).

Highly experienced race promoters RunThrough have set up a race programme that leaves the starting grid at 9:00am for the full marathon and is followed at 30 minute intervals by the 20 miles, half marathon and 10K, before the 5K sprint revs up for the chequered flag at 10:45am.

Goodwood Motor Circuit, home to the world famous Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, provides a flat, smooth, traffic-free tarmac surface conducive to personal bests. Located at the foot of the Sussex Downs, the scenic track has a lap of around 5K so is ideal for the multi-race programme. Each mile will be accurately marked and chip timing will ensure your effort will be rewarded with rapid results.

Last year's Running Grand Prix at Goodwood drew more than 1,000 runners to the venue. The biggest field of 344 finishers opted for the two lap 10K race, won by Jamie Corbett (Worthing & District, 34:51) and Claire Fletcher (Hart Road Runners, 44:29). Around 50 people beat 50 minutes and 1:37:46 was the closing time.

One of the features of the venue is the wide start that means very little time is lost getting underway and chip times are close to gun times. All entrants can enjoy free massages, photos and parking and the entry fee includes a themed medal, event T-shirt and post-race goodies.

So if you need a 20-miler for your autumn marathon prep and your other half fancies a tilt at their 10K PB you need to get your motor running and head to the Sussex Downs on Sunday!
