Robin Hood Returns to Nottingham
One of the region's biggest running and charity events returns this September...
Thousands of runners will take to the streets of Nottingham this September to emulate Robin Hood and give something back to those who need it most. All set for 29 September, The Robin Hood Half Marathon is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK and it is also the largest charity fundraising event in the city, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds since its inception.
Organisers say: "The 2024 Robin Hood Half and Mini Marathons are shaping up to be a record breaking weekend. Join us now and take advantage of the training offers with our partners and charities to get you to the finish line and make the summer special as we all prepare together for an epic running event."
The course itself is great for both seasoned runners and beginners alike - for beginners, whose key objective is to complete the course, to more regular long distance event runners, looking to beat their personal best time. It is a single lap, 13.1 mile traffic free course. The race starts and finishes in Victoria Embankment and is undulating, so not all flat.
The picturesque route takes runners along Victoria Embankment, River Trent, past Nottingham Castle, near the Robin Hood Statue, through the Nottingham Park Estate and through Wollaton Park where there is a strong chance of spotting some deer roaming, finishing on Victoria Embankment Recreation Ground next to the River Trent.
There is also a Mini Marathon and those taking part can run or walk the 1.5 mile route in a fun community focused race with parents, friends, siblings, teachers or anyone else that you can persuade. The route largely follows the beautiful River Trent and finishes in front of huge crowds in the race village.
Artistic kids are invited to enter a competition to design race day t-shirts, organisers say: "This is your chance to be the talk of the town on race day with up to 2,000 runners wearing your design. If your child would like to design the official race t-shirt for the Robin Hood Mini, now is the time for them to grab their pens and pencils as entries close at the end of the month - 31 May 2024."
