Give volunteering a go at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games

There are a wide range of roles on offer for keen applicants.

Birmingham is to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games from 28 July to 8 August and excitement is building ahead of this major event that will put the West Midlands in the spotlight. More than 12,000 volunteers are needed to ensure this runs smoothly and safely and leaves an enduring legacy.

The Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport and inclusive event where athletes from 71 nations will compete in 15 sports within venues across Birmingham and the West Midlands. From athletics to mountain biking, gymnastics to para powerlifting, athletes will push their bodies to the limits in the pursuit of gold, silver and bronze medals. This event will also host a large scale arts festival as part of a range of cultural activities to showcase the area and build relationships with other organisations.

A wide variety of volunteering roles are on offer ranging from those that require no formal training or ‘Generalist’ through to skilled positions or ‘Specialist’ and both require a ‘can do’ attitude, passion and enthusiasm on the part of the volunteer to ensure the Games are a success. Full training will be given.

There are a limited number of roles for young people aged 14-17 who will learn new skills, build confidence and gain valuable experience – all of which will stand them in good stead in their future careers.

People are invited to register their interest at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games website and receive updates about the Volunteer programme. The application process will open this year.
