Race The Night Towcester

Night Time Racing At Towcester

Runners hoping to take part in the first edition of this new night race should act quickly...

A brand new endurance running event is set to debut in Northamptonshire this summer as Race The Night Towcester prepares to launch at Towcester Racecourse on 13 June. Organisers, Big Cow Sports, say demand is expected to be high for the new evening challenge, which will see runners take on a four hour test of stamina around the historic racecourse circuit.

The event begins at 6.30pm and runs until 10.30pm, with competitors aiming to complete as many laps as possible of the 2.7K course within the allotted time. Unlike traditional races, there is no fixed distance to complete. Instead, the result is determined purely by the number of laps covered before the clock runs out. Participants can run continuously or take breaks between laps to refuel and recover, creating a tactical element to the challenge as runners decide how best to pace themselves across the four hours.

The event will offer several formats, including a solo endurance category for runners who want to tackle the full four hour challenge alone. There will also be relay options, with teams able to compete as pairs or in teams of four. In the relay races only one runner from each team will be on the course at a time, with competitors able to swap whenever they choose.

Organisers comment: "We hope the relay format will create a lively atmosphere, encouraging teams to bring plenty of personality to the race with matching kits, bold colours or even fancy dress as they cheer on teammates from the sidelines."

The race will take place on a closed loop route following the original racing circuit at Towcester Racecourse. The terrain reflects the venue’s history as a horse racing track, with gently undulating ground and natural variations underfoot providing an added endurance test for competitors. With wide paths and a fully enclosed course, the layout is designed to allow runners plenty of space while also giving spectators clear views of the action throughout the evening.
