Take Your Pick At Prudhoe
New, faster routes on offer at this year's Prudhoe Miners Race event...
Wild Deer Events will this year work in conjunction with Prudhoe Town Council to bring runners the popular Prudhoe Miners Race. The road closed event will take place on the evening of Sunday 25 August and will feature a 2K race for children aged 8-11, a 5K race for ages 11+ and a 10K race for ages 16+.
The Prudhoe Miners Race was once popular with members of the town’s working men’s clubs, but it eventually died out after the Second World War, only to be revived in 2012 by the Council to build on the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and celebrate the town’s coal mining heritage.
Speaking about their involvement with the event, a spokesperson from Wild Deer Events said: "We are delighted to be working in conjunction with Prudhoe Town Council to bring you the popular Prudhoe Miners Race at 6pm on August Bank Holiday Sunday. There will be new and flatter 5 and 10K routes for 2024!"
The new routes will start and finish beside Prudhoe Town Football Club and will be out and back along past Low Prudhoe Industrial Estate. The 5K is perfect for beginners while the 10K could be a great training run or fitness test for the Great North Run which takes place just two weeks later.
All finishers will be rewarded with a medal, merchandise, a snack and a drink. You can also opt to join the Wild Deer Summer Social after the race at Prudhoe Town Football Club where there will be a buffet and some free drinks!
